He had gotten up to use the restroom when the plane broke in half in the sky and the two main pieces crashed down onto different parts of island. Bernard was a dentist who met his wife Rose not long before the crash. He proposed after they had dated for five months and she revealed she had terminal cancer with just a year to live. They married regardless and were on their honeymoon in Australia before the plane crashed during their return.
